Our physicians are committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based, cutting edge treatments for pulmonary, critical care, and sleep disorders. We focus not only on treating illness, but on prevention and recovery. Our tobacco treatment clinic, adherence research center, pulmonary rehabilitation, and outcomes after critical illness centers share in this mission.
Johns Hopkins has been at the forefront of caring for critically ill patients. We admit over 2600 patients to our ICUs, and perform over 2000 bedside procedures per year. Our ICUs provide 192 months of resident training per year, and enroll over 120 patients into clinical trials annually.
Our division is made up of over 70 full-time faculty known nationally and internationally for their knowledge in pulmonary and critical care medicine. According to US News and World Report, Johns Hopkins holds a Top 10 ranking in reputation for Pulmonary Medicine.
We have world experts in general pulmonary diseases, cystic fibrosis, lung transplantation, pulmonary hypertension, sarcoidosis, interstitial lung disease, scleroderma, obstructive lung disease, sleep disorders, lung cancer, neuromuscular disease, smoking cessation, bronchiectasis, and interventional pulmonary. These outpatient programs receive over 20,000 patient visits per year.
Our fellows receive rigorous clinical training in caring for patients with both common and rare pulmonary diseases and acute life-threatening illness, under the guidance of world-renowned specialists. The research training is supported by the largest Pulmonary T32 institutional training grant in the nation and most of our fellows are awarded individual research grants during training. Since 2005, over 90% of our fellowship graduates have entered careers in academia.
Our scientists are engaged in cutting-edge research, from asthma to sepsis and sleep disorders. We have over 160 grants and over $21 million in funding to improve our understanding and treatment of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep disorders.
Established in the early 1970s and accredited in 1977, the Johns Hopkins Sleep Disorders Center was one of the first academic sleep center in the nation. Now, Johns Hopkins performs over 3000 sleep studies a year and operates 7 days a week. Our sleep fellowship training program is training the next generation of sleep medicine leaders.
